Dairy Farm

Established in 1982 it is located in Al-Khalidia town of Mafraq Governorate. The beginnings were limited to breeding sheep and improved strains of Shami goats aiming to provide the local market with red meat and fresh milk in line with policy of the government.
Due to the abundant quantities of fresh milk production from sheep and goats, the idea of establishing a dairy factory to produce milk, yoghurt, and cheese started.

Hammoudeh Food Industries Co. was the first company producing dairy and cheese products from fresh milk in Jordan. The increasing demand for dairy products in the Jordanian local market lead the management of the company to import (86) heads of dairy cattle of good breeds from Europe in 1986 and increase the fresh milks quantity.

Accordingly, the company started distributing high quality dairy products to the local market with no competitors in this regard; such products are produced by different kinds of milk, such as:

  • Sheep fresh milk
  • Goat fresh milk
  • Cow fresh milk

We have started establishing a typical Dairy Cattle farm with high standard barns. The farm utilizes the latest technology and machinery during all stages of milk production.

Al-Khaldia Dairy Farm has expanded steadily to become today one of the largest farms existing in Jordan with 3500 heads of cows. It provides Hammoudeh Food Industries Company with the raw fresh milk of about (35) ton per day.

The farm is located on a 500 Thousand sq. meters land having an artesian well and is divided into several sections as follows:

  • Dairy cattle section (High, medium & low producing cows, Dry Cow).
  • Breeding cows section.
  • Heifers.
  • New-born section.
  • Cows breeding and calves fattening.
  • Animal Health (VET) health section.
  • Breeding and Artificial insemination section.
  • Hoof-cutting section èHoof Care Section.
  • Milking Parlour.
  • Feed

The cows are divided into these different cattle pens according to the cows' case and are supervised by agricultural engineers, specialized technicians and veterinarians. In the new born pen each new born cattle is placed in a nurture box for two weeks. There the baby cattle are fed with milk only and are provided with careful attention. Later, the calves are transferred to another pen where they are fed with small amounts of concentrated feed with some dry clover to get used to other types of feed along with milk.

The amount of feed is then increased gradually until weaning time where the calve is placed in a larger pen with a group of cows and is ready to be fed with concentrated feeds and other types of feed such as clover, straw, silage, and green feed. At this stage the focus is mainly on the calves which will grow to become dairy cows. As for the male calves, they are fed with feed continuously to reach the required weight as soon as possible then are sold to the local market to provide red meat.

The milking place is the most important section in the farm, high care of hygiene, cleanliness of the place and cows before milking is essential. The milking process is carried out automatically without human factor to affect the raw milk produced.

Milking is performed by placing the cows in their certain place where the udder is cleaned and sterilized and is checked to be free from any inflammation. In addition, milk is tested for each cow separately after getting its number and place automatically via computer. In case there is any sick cow, it is isolated by the computer to a special pen to be treated under supervision of the veterinarian. Thus, its milk is separated and disposed of by the specialized technician in the milking place to prevent it from being mixed with the good milk.

The process of milking for each cow lasts from 8 to 10 minutes. When milk is filtered it is pumped and collected into certain stainless steel cans at normal body temperature (37oC), then it is cooled within 15 seconds by a certain device to reach (4oC) and placed into storing stainless steel cans. This process is the typical way to store milk until being sent to the dairy factory by a certain tank at (4oC) temperature.

Regarding the feeds furnished to the cows, high quality concentrated or filler ones is provided. The quantities of feed provided to the cows are calculated according to their milk production quantities.
The feed is provided by modern machines to be mixed before being sent to the cattle pens then placed into mangers to be available for the cows.

The daily Hammoudeh Food Industries Co. dairy products produced from our farms fresh milk are widely spread over Jordan, covering all local markets through a huge fleet of 150 modern well-refrigerated vehicles to protect the products from damage when they are being distributed to all markets.
